Educators' AI Playbook, Ep5: AI governance in schools; what it actually means
Everyone agrees AI should be governed responsibly. Fewer schools are certain what that requires day to day. This session cuts through the noise; from minimum viable governance structures to practical evidence of accountability. Brad Smith, Vice Chair and President of Microsoft, joins Mark Orchison, Dan Fitzpatrick and Julia Pidduck to explore AI safety, privacy and what the new standard means for schools.

Watch on demand
We are pleased to be joined by Brad Smith, Vice Chair and President of Microsoft, to discuss Microsoft's new AI Safety & Privacy Standard for Schools and what it may mean for school leaders, educators, parents and students.
This is a significant development in the education AI conversation. The new standard focuses on contractually enforceable protections for schools, including restrictions on training AI models using student and educator data, stronger data minimisation, customer control over data, human oversight, security, transparency for families, and safeguards against feature creep and vendor lock-in.
For schools, this moves the conversation beyond whether AI can support teaching and learning. It raises the more important question: what standards, safeguards and evidence should sit around AI before it is used with students, staff and school data?
This session is designed for Heads, senior leaders, IT directors, safeguarding leads, DPOs, digital strategy leads, curriculum leaders and anyone responsible for governing AI use in schools.
By the end of the webinar, you will have a clearer view of what Microsoft's new standard includes, why contractual AI safeguards are becoming more important, and how schools can take a more structured approach to AI safety, privacy and vendor review.
