About this session

The Educators AI Playbook is a monthly briefing for school leaders and educators, hosted by Mark Orchison, Founder & CEO of 9ine, and Dan Fitzpatrick, the internationally recognised strategist known as The AI Educator. Session 4 moves beyond the headlines to tackle the practical compliance, strategic and technical realities sitting on school leaders' desks today, joined by guest speaker Julia Pidduck from the 9ine team to dive deep into vendor contracts and legal frameworks.

The session opens with first-hand insights from Dan's time at Google I/O in Mountain View, covering Google's wave of new agentic tools and what they mean for schools inside the Google ecosystem. From there, the conversation turns to the hidden risks of "vibe coding" — how easy it has become for IT directors or teachers to build bespoke, in-house AI applications, and why doing so means a school inherits the compliance, security testing, GDPR and IP ownership liabilities that come with it.

Julia unpacks the EU AI Act's vendor transparency requirements coming into force this August, and how to audit existing vendor contracts whether a school is based in the EU or not. The session closes by looking at why organisational AI adoption typically plateaus at just 19%, and how school leadership can move the other 81% from simple "inspiration" to structured, habit-driven deployment using the Diamond Sprint framework.
