9ine presents ‘Turing Trials Student Version’

Written by 9ine | Feb 25, 2026 11:38:35 AM

Last year saw the successful launch of 9ine’s Turing Trials AI card game, which we designed for schools as a fun, free and engaging way for them to have discussions about the opportunities and risks of AI in education. From hundreds of downloads, to playing Turing Trials with schools at conferences and in workshops worldwide, we saw Turing Trials being used by schools to have conversations about AI’s impact on education, including on data privacy and child safeguarding.

As Turing Trials proved so successful in increasing AI Literacy in schools, we wanted to take it a step further and design a version specifically for students! This version has a new format and new scenarios, issues and safeguards, all focused on students. It helps them to understand the risks and issues of using AI and how to protect themselves, fellow students, and the wider community.

You can now download a copy of Turing Trials Student Version and other supporting materials including a facilitator pack with hints and tips on how to play from our website here.

In this blog, we provide an overview of the student version of Turing Trials, including how it differs from the original version. If this intrigues you, and you want to learn more, you can sign up for an exclusive overview on Wednesday 4th March at 08:30 or 16:00 GMT.

What is ‘Turing Trials Student Version’?

Turing Trials Student Version is a fun and interactive card game, which can be used to increase AI literacy amongst students. Teams play as Smart Shield, a group of protectors navigating real-world scenarios to explore the impact of AI on students, teachers and the school. Each game a new scenario emerges, and players take on unique roles, guiding discussions, identifying issues, assessing harms and implementing safeguards.

From scenarios concerning deep fakes, automated grading and chatbots, to the Issues of bias and discrimination, academic integrity, privacy and safeguarding, Turing Trials Student Version helps students explore how AI can be used, as well as the limits and risks of it. It also helps students to explore various safeguards, such as healthy technology use, fact check and inclusive design, which can be used to make sure that AI is used ethically and safely.

Prompting conversations about the use of AI, and as a tool to increase AI literacy, Turing Trials Student Version is perfect for students to play on their own or being led by a teacher.

How does Turing Trials Student Version differ from the original?

The original version of Turing Trials focused on the use of AI by schools and included scenarios where the use of AI in education might create issues and risks for both staff and students. In the Student Version of Turing Trials we’ve created new and updated scenarios, issues and safeguards which specifically concern the impact of AI use on students. We’ve also updated how the game works, so there is the opportunity for some healthy competition amongst teams! Smart Shield has the ability to prevent the scenario from happening, but will they make the right decisions and keep the students safe?

We hope you enjoy the game, if you have any questions or feedback, feel free to reach out to us at support@9ine.com. Good luck!

How else can 9ine help?

If playing the game makes you realise that your school needs support in governing AI responsibly, from increasing AI literacy amongst staff and students to vetting vendors to ensure that their AI systems are safe, secure and compliant, 9ine have a number of products and services that can support you. Book a meeting with us if you want to learn more about:

  • Application Library: A solution that enables all staff to access a central searchable library of all EdTech in the school. The library contains all information staff need to know about the AI in use (if there is), privacy risks, safeguarding risks and cyber risks. With easy to add ‘How to’ and ‘Help’ guides, Application Library becomes a single, central digital resource. Through implementing Application Library your school will identify duplication in EdTech, reduce contract subscription costs and have a workflow for the request of new EdTech for staff to follow.
  • Vendor Management: Removes the pain, and time, from evaluating and vetting third party vendor contracts, privacy notices, information security policies and other compliance documents. Vendor Management provides a thorough, ‘traffic light’ based approach to inform you of vendor privacy, cyber, AI, and safeguarding risks. Vendor Management supports you to demonstrate to parents, staff and regulators how you effectively evaluate and manage technology you choose to deploy.
  • Academy LMS: Our AI Pathway is your school's learning partner for AI ethics and governance. With differentiated course levels you can enrol staff in an Introductory course to AI, then for those staff with a greater responsibility, enrol them in Intermediate and Advanced courses. There’s also specialist courses for AI in safeguarding, child protection and technology. This training goes deeper into the themes which Turing Trials can help you to explore, providing the knowledge your staff need to keep your school safe, secure and compliant.
  • AI Readiness Toolkit: 9ine’s AI Implementation Toolkit simplifies the process of creating policies, processes and assessment templates with our ready to use templates and expert support. A comprehensive toolkit of actions schools need to take to implement AI compliantly, and how they need to integrate these with other areas of compliance, such as safeguarding and data privacy. Does Turing Trials leave you with a number of questions about what your school needs to do next? Our readiness toolkit can help you with what your school needs to deal with the scenarios the game presents.
